Ambassador visits The Oxford Science Park to boost European trade opportunities

The UK’s Ambassador to the EU, Lindsay Appleby, visited The Oxford Science Park this week as part of a two-day tour of Oxfordshire aimed at helping local businesses seize new growth opportunities within European markets.

The visit formed part of the Government’s nationwide ‘domestic roadshow’, which is sending Ambassadors and High Commissioners to communities across the UK to strengthen links with businesses and support their expansion into key global markets.

With the EU accounting for more than £813 billion of the UK’s trade last year, the roadshow represents an important step in the Government’s Plan for Change to boost economic cooperation and investment.

During his stop at The Oxford Science Park, Ambassador Appleby met with industry representatives and science and technology leaders to discuss the county’s thriving innovation ecosystem and its potential to attract greater overseas investment.

Yong Shen, Director of The Oxford Science Park, said: “It was a pleasure to host Ambassador Appleby and share with him the incredible innovation taking place at The Oxford Science Park. Our companies are developing world-leading solutions in areas ranging from life sciences to advanced engineering. Strengthening links with European partners will be essential to helping these businesses scale and succeed on the global stage.”

Speaking about the tour, Ambassador Appleby said: “I was thrilled to be in Oxfordshire to meet with local leaders to discuss how I can help to drive overseas investment into the area and help local businesses with export opportunities. So many of these innovative and excellent Oxfordshire products and services could find a market in Europe. We’re hitting the road to ensure that not a single opportunity is missed to generate trade and investment wins overseas.”

The Ambassador’s visit underscores Oxfordshire’s growing role as a national and global innovation hub, with institutions like The Oxford Science Park helping to drive research, development, and economic growth for the region and the UK.
